Following conversations with the head teacher at Dinnington High with getting the community boxing group into school as an afterschool club, we also discussed the idea of getting the young people of the school more interactive with the community and doing things a bit differently.

The RotherFed Good News Stories Facebook group was set up on the 24th September, which is a public group, that anyone can apply to be a member of. The aim was to build up a group, where people could interact with each other, promote events and share what was happening at their groups.

The spooky Springwell event took place on Thursday 31st October 2019 and was supported by Springwell TARA as well as Wendy and Paul who volunteered to serve free warm drinks and hotdogs, they prepared the buffet before the event started and helped with cleaning throughout the night.

This month has seen two really great events take place in the village, a firework display and a remembrance tea dance.

On Friday 1 November Thurcroft Big Local held their first Firework Display. Since the Big Local started in 2012 this is something the local community have regularly asked for and this year, we decided to give it a go.

RotherFed hosted a multiagency drop-in which was supported by the local Springwell TARA group who provided free refreshments for service users of the event. The drop in had a good attendance of 19 residents, 2 local councillors and 1 Guinness Housing Partnership Customer Liaison Officer.

I have been working closely with the Henley Community Group at Oates Close Community Centre in Masbrough. The group meet every Wednesday to play bingo, enjoy teas and coffees and to have a good natter.

After speaking to the local residents that use the community centre, a common issue that was raised was the intergration of the older and younger residents. With little for local residents and families to do including the lack of local events, parties and celebrations.

Client 031 was a folk lift truck driver but was let go from Greencore in February 2019. He had been unemployed for two months before he came to our initial meeting. I reviewed his CV and updated it to be industry specific. Client 031 was very unmotivated to find work and came to the first appointment with his partners persuasion.

I have recently begun to more activly engage with East Herringthorpe Social Club. The club is a not-for-profit organisation that has been running for over 20 years. I arranged a meeting with the events committee and Gary Linney, Steward of the club as they would like to engage more with the local community and put activities and events on for all ages that people would like to attend. I discussed and supported the group in putting together a strategy for events from November 2019 – March 2020.

Rotherham Deaf Futures is a group of profoundly deaf people who support other members of the deaf community and champion deaf awareness in Rotherham. The group formed in 2012 and with the help of RotherFed became a constituted group. Prior to this group setting up they had a dedicated team at RMBC who helped and supported them.

I have been re-establishing relationships with the Lanes community and their community centre which was built  in 1997 after the group secured £245,000 from lottery funding. The centre is a sustainable venue as they do not rely on funding and they have charges in place to fund the venue, the cost of membership is only £2 per year. The leader of the group Lorraine has managed to sustain a bank account with a surplus of £18,000 for maintenance and repairs.
