TPAS Awards 2021

The RotherFed Friendship Calls project was shortlisted for the “Excellence in Community Action Award” at the Annual Tpas Awards which took place on 8th October 2021, and we have been successful.

Our CEO, Phil Hayes, would like to say a big thank you to all our amazing volunteers that have given so much of their time up to help isolated people in our communities through some really difficult situations.
Also a huge thank you to all our staff team that have been involved in and created an incredible service through their passion, resilience and hard work.

Rotherham Federation Covid-19 Response

RotherFed have been part of the overall community support programme targeting those most in need in our communities, initially through the Rotherham Heroes campaign and Community Hub, but also through providing support to our network of TARA’s and community groups. Our CEO has been involved in the multi-agency response and the Rotherham Tactical Group that work together to respond to community needs. As part of our involvement in the Rotherham Heroes campaign, we took a lead role in helping to shape and organise Friendship Calls to the most isolated and lonely people across the borough, culminating in the creation of a Befriending Providers Network that is Chaired by our CEO and meet monthly to improve outcomes for local people who are lonely and isolated.

Volunteer Role: Telephone Befriender

Are you interested in helping others?

Do you enjoy a good chat with someone?

Have you got the odd half an hour to help someone feel that bit less lonely?

Then telephone befriending could be the role for you! Our volunteers call people who have identified themselves as lonely and offer them a friendship call. Calls last on average for 30 minutes and make a real difference to people’s week. All volunteers receive full training for this role and are supported by a staff team.

Voices and Choices Evaluation

In April 2016 Rotherham Federation won £401, 800 from the Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities Fund to deliver its Community Voices and Choices project. The 36-month project adopted the Community Organiser approach seeking to address the lack of social capital, building community strength and empowerment in eight of Rotherham’s most deprived communities.

This is the final evaluation of the project produced in January 2019.
