Have you got the odd half an hour to help someone feel that bit less lonely?
Then telephone befriending could be the role for you! Our volunteers call people who have identified themselves as lonely and offer them a friendship call. Calls last on average for 30 minutes and make a real difference to people’s week. All volunteers receive full training for this role and are supported by a staff team.
//The Covid Diaries is a project to share poems, stories, diary entries and videos during your time in lockdown. which will then go into a documentary film.

//During the Covid-19 Pandemic Rotherham Federation are working with funders and contract providers to fulfil our commitment of Strengthening Communities in Rotherham. This is including changing how we work in order to comply with Government guidelines as well as safeguarding our members, staff and the community as a whole.
Public meetings have been cancelled or postponed and staff are working from home. You can still contact all staff by email and most staff on their mobiles and we will continue to be here.

After working in the local community library over the last year – Mowbray Gardens Library, I met a few individuals and groups that needed some additional support. One of the groups that I met was the Buddies group which is an offshoot of another local successful group in the library where members meet weekly to socialise, play games and develop their confidence. Some of the members suffer from mental health issues and have additional needs so this group is a real lifeline in the community.

Canklow Rainbow Kids Club have started a project with the wildlife trust with the first session starting on 26th February 2020. The aims of the project is to teach the children about conservation, wildlife and how to better use the green spaces around them this will be supported by a focus group made up of local residents, groups and partner stakeholders including the local school and Friends of Boston Castle. The aims of the focus group will be to improve and maintain the woodland and park area between Canklow and Boston Castle as well as increasing the usage of the woodland.

I have recently been supporting Silverwood Colliery Heritage Group with setting up a formalised group, I have given them advice, support and guidance on how to become a constituted group and setting up a bank account as well as securing public liability insurance for any activities or events that they may deliver.
The group have recently secured £250 from Wickersley ward funding which they hope to use to purchase resources such as display boards and pull up banners. The group are also looking to raise funds by selling t-shirts, keyrings, photo frames and Silverwood Colliery commemorative cups with pit workers numbers on them for ex-miners, family members and anyone else interested in supporting the group.

Rotherham Federation in partnership with the Rotherham Borough Council completed a door knock exercise in early February 2020. The purpose of the door knock was to gain feedback on Ward Housing Hubs and explain their introduction to local tenants. As well as knocking on the doors of tenants, we had 2 community centres as bases at Peregrin Way in Harthill and Viking Way. The bases were for workers involved in the door knock but they also gave an opportunity for local tenants to come into the centre and talk to the council directly.

Jean and Gwen have regularly attended the 5th Age Community Group every Tuesday, 2pm – 4pm. They were both the first members of the group to ask about the digital drop-ins and what they involve. The group has varied in it’s attendance of the drop-in from 2-5 attendees.
