DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to attend the next Rotherham Federation of Communities board meeting on the morning of Thursday 31st May 2018 at Springwell Gardens Community Centre. As well as the ordinary business there will be a presentation and discussion about the new repairs and maintenance contracts for council tenants in Rotherham. \nSteve Ruffle CEO of the Federation said “as an organisation that aims to strengthen communities in Rotherham we are keen to remain open in everything we do. As well as our ordinary business\, there will be a presentation by  Rotherham Council on their process for choosing new repairs and maintenance contractors”. This will provide an opportunity for tenants to ask questions\, have a say in and be involved in the process of helping select how a decision on  new repairs contractor (s) are decided. \nThe meeting begins at 10am and will be followed by a small buffet lunch at 12 noon. Places do not need to be booked.  For more details about the meeting contact the Federation offices on 01709 368515.  Springwell Gardens Community Centre is on Eastwood View and the postcode is S65 1NH. The number 37 and 115 buses pass near the centre on Doncaster Road.

DESCRIPTION:This event\, organised by British Red Cross and hosted by The Mayor of Rotherham\, Cllr Eve Rose Keenan\, will provide people who are lonely\, their carers\, friends and anyone else that provides support to people who may be lonely with information on the support and services available in Rotherham. \nTuesday 13th February 2018\, 2.00pm – 4.00 pm at Rotherham Town Hall (John Smiths Room). Tea/coffee will be available at 2.00 pm. \nThere will be 9 organisations represented at the event\, all who can provide some support or services to lonely people: \n\nAgeUK – representing older peoples service’s and Rotherham Older Peoples Forum – (support group for older people in Rotherham)\nRotherham Military Community Veteran’s Centre\nThe Rainbow Project – Rotherham LGTG Group\nREMA – Rotherham Ethnic Minority Association\nPOP’s – Rotherham Community Hub at Rawmarsh – (representing younger up to older people’s support services)\nRotherfed – representing Tennants and Residents Associations\nRotherham Community Transport\nCrossroads – Carers Organisation\nAnd\, of course\, The Red Cross\n\n \nThis event is for: \n\nPeople who are lonely\nPeople/professionals who work with lonely people who would like to know what is happening in Rotherham\nPeople who know someone who is lonely and would like information to help them\nPeople who wish to become volunteers to help lonely people\n\nAgenda \n\n2pm The Mayor will open the event with a welcome speech\, this will be followed by a short introduction to the event by The British Red Cross\n2.10pm Short talks from each organisation showcasing the work they do in respect of loneliness in Rotherham.\n3pm There will be a break for tea/coffee with a short performance by Open Minds Theatre Group about loneliness for disabled people.\n3.30pm  – Each organisation will provide a ‘case study’ to show what a difference they have made via their services (ending on a positive note).\n3.50pm – Event closure by Red Cross

DESCRIPTION:This meeting is now full. \nThe Future of Social Housing is the subject of a major Rotherham Federation meeting on Friday 26th January 2018. Speakers include John Healey MP Shadow Minister of Housing\, Cllr Dominic Beck RMBC Cabinet Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods\,  John Bibby Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Retained Council Housing and Lilian Shears Vice Chair of Rotherham Federation. \nAs well as speakers\, there will be workshops on number of themes including building more social housing\, who is social housing for\, the perception of social housing tenants and the role of tenants’ voices. Pie and peas will be served at the end of the meeting. \nOne of the organisers Steve Ruffle CEO of Rotherham Federation said “having a safe and secure home is important to all of us. As well as the Labour Party’s review of social housing\, the Government plans to release a Housing Green Paper in the next few weeks. This meeting comes at an opportune time as the future of social housing is a key issue for our time.” \nHe added “tenants’ voices are more important now than ever and we encourage people to get involved with both these important reviews\, come to the meeting and have a say”. \nThe meeting will be held between 2pm and 4pm at Springwell Gardens Community Centre. Places are free but must be booked in advance.
